ASEC is an annual Arts and Social Entrepreneurship Conference that has been in existence since 2014 to provide artists and arts-based social entrepreneurs a platform to gain exposure, learn practical skills that can advance their work, and network with like-minded people. The conference started as a partnership between From the Roots, SAYO, and Grow Khula Multimedia Productions, and has evolved to bring on additional partners each year.
In 2017, Grow Khula Multimedia Productions took over as the lead organization behind ASEC with support from the Department of Arts and Culture, as they teamed up to expand the initiative. In an effort to expose more young artists and entrepreneurs from townships around Durban to ASEC, Grow Khula hosted three lead-up events in Umlazi, Clermont, and Mount Moriah, bringing out 75-125 participants in each site for performances, workshops, and panel discussions. The lead-up events are building momentum for their year-end ASEC in Durban on December 9th. The team is lining up speakers, performers, and guests as we speak. We look forward to sharing more updates soon, but if you’re in Durban you’re going to want to mark your calendars now!
